Newest coupe of C-Class Mercedes Benz
Mercedes has finally showed pictures with the newest coupe from its models, the one based on C-Class, named CLC. After the teaser presented few weeks ago, Mercedes offered pictures with its completely new coupe, the most accessible from the series.
Named CLC, according to the new politics of choosing names on Mercedes, that say that every coupe must start with “CL”, the model wants to be a dynamic version for C-Class.
The front designs don’t offer many changes, because we already know the “C”, but the back is completely new. Big lights, moved on wings, too are a perfect match for the coupe; but it is a shame that Mercedes didn’t offered a special design, because everything looks to traditional. Maybe this is the only bad thing about this model. Another good looking element for CLC is the third brake light, formed by LED’s and integrated in the rear boot. The smallest engine available on CLC is a gas one that develops 122 hp and the much powerful one is a V6 of 272 hp.
There are also available CDI engines. CLC200 consumes something between 5.8 and 6.1 l/100 km that mean that you can make over 1,000 km with one full gas tank, because the tank has a 62 liters capacity.
The model shown s equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s sport package, which adds 18 inch wheels, headlights with black painted inner frames, a sports suspension with lowered bodywork and chrome trim. The basic CLC180 Compressor and CLC200 Compressor are powered by four-cylinder engines, delivering 143 horsepower and 184 horsepower, respectively. The more powerful CLC230 delivers 204 horsepower from a 2.4-liter V6, and the range-topping CLC350 offers 272 horsepower from a larger 3.5-liter V6. The 350 model will sprint to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds. Diesel variants include the CLC200 CDI and CLC220 CDI, which deliver 122 horsepower and 150 horsepower, respectively. Basic transmission choices include a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual. The V6 models are available with a seven-speed automatic, featuring paddle shifting.
The side view of the Mercedes CLC is unmistakable with its muscular lines. The dominant upper edge of the wings underscores the wedge shape of the downward-slanting shoulder line, which combines at the rear with the upper edge of the tail lights. Taken in conjunction with the gently sloping bonnet, the sweeping silhouette of the roof and the obliquely angled rear windscreen give rise to the wedge-shaped side view which harmonizes perfectly with the car’s racy temperament. The all-round chrome trim strips, which are an additional eye-catcher, particularly when combined with dark exterior paint finishes, provide the finishing touches to the coherent lines.
In 1996, Mercedes-Benz was the first car maker to offer this kind of voice-operated control system in a car. This first-generation LINGUATRONIC required a computer with a mere 512 kilobytes of storage capacity; today that figure is well over ten megabytes that are on CLC.
